We are committed to operating in as sustainable and responsible a way as possible, consciously placing the welfare of our customers, staff, communities & the environment at the forefront of everything we do.
Whilst we know there is still a long way to go, we have made a mindful start and are proud of what we have already achieved. We wanted to share some of this with you.

REDUCING WASTAGE

ELIMINATING OVER 10,000 PIECES OF SINGLE USE PLASTIC
We’ve removed all straws & stirrers & switched from plastic condiment bottles to reusable, lidded glass jars, cutting 10,000+ items of plastic a year from our operation.

TARGET 50% REDUCTION IN USE OF PAPER MENUS
To reduce paper waste, we have introduced QR codes to view our food & drink menus electronically. With your help, we aim to reduce the use of paper menus by at least 50% over the next 12 months.

AVOIDING UNNECESSARY PACKAGING
We’ve switched to a exciting new premium tonic range, Buzbee’s. Interesting flavours & low in calories, the brand is also passionate about bee conservation AND their product comes with ZERO plastic packaging.
We stock Tyrells crisps. Tyrells have improved packaging efficiency enabling them to take 298 lorries off the road annually, cutting almost 60k miles & saving over 94 tonnes of C02!
We buy all our loose bar snacks in supersized packs with less overall packaging.
We’re proactively engaging with suppliers, encouraging them to review their packaging & are committed to making decisions with packaging in mind when selecting products.

CUTTING FOOD WASTE
Our food waste initiatives range from offering Little Tummy dishes for those with a smaller appetite to doggy bags for leftovers to be taken home.
We’ve started making our own dehydrated fruit slices to garnish drinks which avoids wasting short life fresh fruit.
Each pub uses a compost bin for food peelings & scraps which provide valuable compost for our kitchen gardens.

RECYCLING

REDUCE REFUSE COLLECTIONS BY UP TO 75% BY THE END OF 2021
We have always sorted our glass, card, paper, plastic, cans & foil for recycling.  Now, we are also recycling our non-compostable food waste, which will be collected for conversion into organic fertiliser or animal feed & sold to local farmers. By improving our food waste handling, we aim to reduce our refuse collections by up to 75% by the end of 2021.

2000 LITRES OF USED COOKING OIL CONVERTED TO BIO DIESEL!
Our used cooking oil is collected by Olleco who convert it into high quality, low carbon bio diesel with almost 2000 litres a year recycled across the Moogies pubs.

ENVIRONMENT

MINDFUL ENERGY MANAGEMENT
All our internal light bulbs have been converted to low energy LEDs.
We’re introducing energy management targets for our managers to ensure this is kept front of mind at all times.

LEVERAGING TECHNOLOGY
Where possible, we’re using technology to reduce paper waste. Aside from menu QR codes, we’ve invested in iPads to take customer orders instead of notepads. All staff inductions & training are now done electronically & our previous paper rota has been replaced by a more efficient, electronic tool.
We accept contactless payments which will be valid for up to £100 from the date announced by the Government.
We are also investigating the option to provide customers with email receipts.

BULK BUYING TO REDUCE DELIVERIES BY 66%
When it comes to long life goods such as napkins, we buy in bulk, reducing the transport miles versus purchasing each month.

HOMEGROWN IS BEST
Nothing is fresher or tastes better than home grown produce – from plant to plate in the shortest time. We’re investing more time & effort into growing our own vegetables, salad items, fruit & herbs. We grow …
Spinach, lettuce, chard, courgettes, cucumbers, tomatoes, apples, walnuts, damsons, runner beans, beetroot, redcurrants, blueberries, blackberries, green beans, cavolo nero, peas, rosemary, mint, thyme, parsley

ECO FRIENDLY PAPER MENUS
For those still preferring a printed copy, all our menus are printed on FSC approved paper & are recycled after use.

SUPPLIERS

BUYING BRITISH & SUPPORT SEASONAL & LOCAL PRODUCE
Where possible, we support British produce & are working with our suppliers to build a better understanding of traceability.
Our new house ale, Moogies Fudgel, is 100% British, crafted for us by the Chiltern Brewery using UK Maris Otter malt & all British varieties of hops.
Our menus are refreshed every few months so that we can incorporate seasonal produce.
We are passionate about sourcing products locally & are constantly reviewing opportunities to buy from local producers.
For example, we buy our eggs from Dinton Farm (all free range). We buy venison & game from Wild Venison & Game based in Wood Eaton. Our ales are delivered direct from breweries in Buckinghamshire & our wine list includes an English Sparkling wine from Sussex.
This is an area that we are committed to expanding. We look forward to bringing you more exciting local produce.

SUSTAINABLY SOURCED SEAFOOD
When it comes to our seafood, we buy everything from the MSC (Marine Stewardship Council) approved & MSC award winning supplier The Stickleback Fish Company Ltd. This gives us peace of mind that all our seafood is sustainably sourced. They are also members of the SRA (Sustainable Restaurant Association), a body giving advice to business on a wide range of environmental issues.

RAINFOREST ALLIANCE CERTIFIED
Our tea & coffee is fully Rainforest Alliance Certified, meaning the wellbeing of the environment & the local tea farmers are both supported.
